Peter Kuhn: "Livin' Right" (Big City Records-lpk 225) 1979 , FLAC etc...

Here's Something ive been meaning to post for sometime, its from longtime blogging aquaintance arcturus.
another wonderful glimpse of Early Kondo ( amongst other things)..from the late 70's on the largely unknown big city ..label

Clarinetist and Engineer Peter Kuhn, made only 3 albums as a leader to my knowledge..
the only one thats been in print even sporadically since its release being , the wonderful, 'The Kill'( SOULNOTE 121043,1981)

This being of similar quality... and with the bonus of an expanded front line! , also features William parker , and Dennis Charles ....

Great stuff from a vintage period for all concerned .

Cyberhugz to arcturus for sharing this.. a real treat.

all i've done is raised the db level slightly .. equalized both channels and split the files , using magix.

indeed - great to see you continuo, and with such an obscure rarity! naturally i've never heard of peter kuhn, although the name indicates that he's german as well. anyway - the known sidemen and quotes from them on the back cover speak for itself, this for sure is something that i'm very curious to listen to - being a long admirer of perry robinson...

hi lucky, thanks very much for this extremely rare recording. i do know peter kuhn records quite well, having his fantastic "the kill" on vinyl from the year of release, but have never heard of big city label nor this particular record. the rhythm section itself sounds great.
regards.

Ah! I used to eyeball this record and its lineup at the record store, but my view would be obstructed by the high price tag (it was $20, but I'm really thrifty when it comes to buying records, so anything double digits frightens me). Welcome back, and thanks again.

Yes! Welcome back Sotise, great post! A request- I think you had commented on Inconstant Sol that you had some upcoming John Carter posts. If so, I can hardly wait.

John Carter - Yes, B. Slim ! Heaps is coming..
If we can manage it (and I think we can), then *everything* that's not in print of his.
A belated apology to (i think it was) 'orleyfarm' , for offering a similar teaser re Carter material some months ago.
It really *will* happen - but it gets annoying how 'real life' gets in the way of blogging... ;o)
Soon now.

also , one ought to bare in mind that carters early records on the revelation and flying dutchman labels are still up for perusal at ISol..... the links still work , but they must surely be among the least downloaded items on the Blog... Carter is so underated.

Schweet! Right there on Prince Street where very much was happening at the time. The 70's were a very special time for free jazz. I'm just glad I was able to make the occasional foray to witness a little bit of that magic. This and other recordings kind bring it all back home! Thanks for this rarity.

Download any of my music you can find, I'm glad to see folks enjoying it. Yeah, I was in the reptile business for years and even though they don't have ears they seemed to dig the sounds when I played for them.

Peace

Peter - Many thanks for dropping past and leaving a comment. Really surprising, really nice!
I was looking at a record you were on yesterday, which is coincidence! - Dave Sewelson's '25 O'Clock Band' LP .
Would you have the time to drop me an email ? serviceton@gmail.com Would love to know more about Ghost of a Trance and about engineering at Environ and other places - back in the day..

dear Peter,

Just seeing this. Was discussing clarinet players w/ someone yesterday & turned them on to both you & this recording, which got me to wondering what you might be up to now.

As the person who ripped this for sharing, I'm very glad to hear yr attitude. Trying to keep this music alive for a younger generation, but one never knows . . .

You likely wouldn't remember, but I was the guy behind the soundboard @ Kuumbwa when you lived in Santa Cruz. Have fond if sketchy memories of what were for me some very exciting gigs at the time - like one you did w/ Zitro (or is my memory inventing things now?) There wouldn't be any old tapes from that period (Santa Cruz) laying about in box somewhere, would there?

Are you still playing?
