Inventive, profound, joyful, complex, swinging, bluesy, avant guard, wonderful musician.
A huge, horrible loss.

So very sad today
As you said, a huge lost and very sad day. An highly versatile musician. his album "Valve No.10" is one of my all time favorites jazz albums.
This is indeed incredibly sad news. I knew he was ill. Last year at the Vision Festival they honored him in such a way as to make it seem that this was coming. He was a huge presence on the NYC music scene. I appreciated his continuing to appear at small local venues despite the success he had elsewhere. I have many memories of things he did both big and small. He will be greatly missed.
was digging "Above and Beyond" the other day not knowing ...big loss to jazz
his music has been a major part of my listening life - fortunate as you say, that there *is* an extensive deiscography - I feel priviliged to have heard him performing a coupla times& hello! good to see you 'about' again - guess I haven't been paying attention
Sad day indeed, what a loss..i knew he was dying of Cancer , at least he's no longer suffering.what a magnificent recorded legacy he left.
