Billy Bang R.I.P 1947 - 2011

Inventive, profound, joyful, complex, swinging, bluesy, avant guard, wonderful musician.

A huge, horrible loss.

His extensive discography is here - http://www.mindspring.com/~scala/bang.htm

So very sad today

As you said, a huge lost and very sad day.
An highly versatile musician. his album "Valve No.10" is one of my all time favorites jazz albums.

This is indeed incredibly sad news. I knew he was ill. Last year at the Vision Festival they honored him in such a way as to make it seem that this was coming. He was a huge presence on the NYC music scene. I appreciated his continuing to appear at small local venues despite the success he had elsewhere. I have many memories of things he did both big and small. He will be greatly missed.
